District Level Independence Day celebrations held at Pherzawl

Pherzawl, Aug 16, 2018: Pherzawl District celebrated India’s Independence Day at Pherzawl public ground yesterday. “Police, 33rd Assam Rifles, village chiefs, CSO leaders and students from different institutions attended the historic event,” according to an official statement.

Paying tribute to the freedom fighters on the occasion, the Thianlaljoy Gangte, ADC stated that he was humbled by the enthusiasm of the district to usher development. He urged the people to fight poverty without causing harm to the environment, pay importance to health and prioritise immunizations and continue their support to the government machineries for the development and proper implementation of government programs in the district.

The district administration, although understaffed, conducted Independence Day Football tournament with the final played between Tuolbung Youth Club and Tinsuong Youth Club. The Chief Guest also released IPR published magazine called ‘Pherzawl Chronicles’ on the occasion and distributed red blankets to the chiefs, sports materials to youth clubs and commendation certificates to government employees.

On the occasion, 13 parade contingents participated in the Independence Day parade. Seven cultural troupes and a band party from the Assam Rifles also performed on the occasion.

Free health camp was organized by the CMO on the same day.

“Due to lack of proper means of communication, the district has been facing numerous difficulties. The CSOs who participated in the event urged the concern departments and the state government to pay more attention to the development of infrastructures and allocate more funds to the district,” the statement added.

Independence Day was also celebrated at Patuihmun, HQ of Vangai Sub-Division.
