Pherzawl
PHERZAWL, headquarters of Pherzawl District, Manipur is a breath of fresh air, its picturesque is certainly one of the best places for romance. It is located in South Manipur bordering Mizoram at 216 km from the capital, Imphal.
Pherzawl is founded in 1883 by Bulhmang, son of Neilal, the 13th grandson of Fima who crossed Tieu river at Champhai, Mizoram from Myanmar in 1526 A.D. Pherzawl was the place where Hmar Association (HA); a nucleus Hmar Literature Society, covering all the Hmars living in different parts of North East India. It was also the headquarter of the Hmar National Congress which was established in 1954. Later on, it became the headquarters of Hmar National Union (HNU) which spearheaded the causes of Hmar people in Manipur, Mizoram, Assam and Tripura.
Pherzawl was also the seat of learning where the first high school (Pherzawl Government High School) in South Manipur was established in 1950. The school produced a lot of central service officers including IAS, IFS, doctors, engineers, missionaries and church leaders. It was also the place where the Independent Church of India (ICI), one of the leading church organizations in Manipur was established in 1930. Judging from different perspectives, Pherzawl has become the nerve centre of different ethnic groups living in North East India.
With the creation of seven additional districts by the Government of Manipur in 2016, Pherzawl has become one of the 16 districts of Manipur.

There are 293 households in Pherzawl as per 2016 House Counting data. The same document shows that there are 1995 residents (1045 male and 950 female).
